Seikilo’s musicians and craftsmen at my art studio, by Ioanna (Art Studio Iris).
A few years ago, in Αpril 2016, a childhood friend invited me to an event where she would sing accompanied with ancient traditional instruments at the Cyprus Archaeological Museum, organized by Seikilo, a Greek musical instruments company and the Reggetiko project, a musician’s band.
I went at the archaeological museum and saw so many people that they couldn’t all fit inside the hall, so some of them were standing outside of the museum! The performance was excellent, performed by the Reggetico project. She was part of this band when she lived in Greece and still makes performances with them from time to time.
Andrie Evripidou, my childhood friend, has sang all her life, since we were kids. Along with these amazingly crafted ancient Greek instruments, the performance was excellent and everyone wanted to hear more! After the performance we could see the exhibition of the instruments that the company Seikilo makes, which is based in Thesaloniki, Greece, but it’s fame is global. These instruments are really made with true dedication, love and care. Love for the history and the craftmanship but for the music as well. Musicians all over the world are ordering musical instruments, or visiting the beautiful Seikilo museum in Thesaloniki.
When I saw that performance, I was mesmerized! I was so excited and wanted to see more! In the next days, the same exhibition was moved at a beautiful art café in Nicosia. It was amazing. I looked and looked again, every instrument was like an art piece. I asked for more information, and Seikilo’s manager was there and answered all my questions.
Since my art studio was created, I remember dreaming of inviting Seikilo to come and see and explore the possibilities of making something here. One summer day, my childhood friend Andrie, asked if Seikilo could film a music video in my studio! You can watch and listen to her sing as I am painting in the background in my studio.
I always liked to collaborate with artists, even from different genres, as I mentioned in past blogs! I find it so wholesome and holistic and a spiritual achievement to manage to merge well different art denominations.. And this is what we did in the following video you can see here!
The experience was amazing, I got to see how illusions are created in another art field! Here you can hear two out of the three songs that were filmed!
