"State Organs": Unmasking Transplant Abuse in China

"State Organs": Unmasking Transplant Abuse in China

On Saturday 30th May, 2026, a chilling atmosphere permeated the quiet St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Maidenhead, England. Several British human rights activists, Councillors, doctors, and local residents were discussing a topic most people would find unimaginable: the organized, state-sponsored human organ industry.

The event was held by the End Forced Organ Harvesting Rotary Satellite Club (www.efoh.org). At the heart of the discussion was a 2025 Oscar qualified, award-winning documentary, which includes 50 international accolades, titled “State Organs”. The deeply moving documentary follows two Chinese families in their 20-year search for loved ones who were taken away by the police and disappeared while in police custody. Along the way, they reveal a harrowing government-run organ harvesting operation that has devastated thousands of lives — a practice that continues to this day.

The two speakers were:

Benedict Rogers – Senior Director at Fortify Rights. Chair of Trustees of Hong Kong Watch

Dr Enver Tohti – Former Uyghur doctor in Urumqi, and ordered to remove organs from an executed prisoner.

Enver: "Industrialized Supply" threatens every Chinese citizen.

Enver Tohti, a Uyghur born in Xinjiang, was a former oncology surgeon who fled to the UK and dedicated himself to human rights activism. Enver provided objective, and perhaps the most chilling, evidence.

Above: Dr. Enver presents evidence: the CCP system has established fast-track channels for exporting organs in Qinghai and Xinjiang provinces.

For him, the evidence exists not only in the operating room but also hidden in full view of the public. He revealed photos of markings on the ground at Chinese airports: "Green Channel for Human Organ Transplantation." He told the audience, “If you see a ‘fast track’ for transporting human organs at airports in Qinghai and Xinjiang, you must realize that this place is exporting organs. Organs cannot be produced in factories. The only way to achieve this ‘industrialized’ scale is through slaughter.”

In the early 1990s, Enver, working at a hospital, discovered within six months that three teenage boys had large U-shaped surgical scars under their armpits and had had a kidney removed; all the children had been missing for three months. He pointed out that in the early days, the number of victims was small, the scale was small, and the forced organ harvesting was quietly covered up.

A disturbing shift occurred in the late 1990s. The CCP’s 1999 crackdown on Falun Gong provided an “almost unlimited” source of organs. Enver said that it was thanks to Falun Gong practitioners that the world’s attention was brough to the CCP’s forced organ harvesting. Their tireless efforts allowed the international community to understand this truth. The scale and speed of China’s forced organ harvesting have an underlying industrial chain. Falun Gong practitioners have consistently and persistently exposed the truth.

“Many people think this is just a Falun Gong issue, but that’s not the case. It’s truly thanks to Falun Gong practitioners that this issue has been brought to the world’s attention. Other victim groups are too small, too afraid, or lack the detailed analysis and evidence that Falun Gong practitioners have.”

He pointed out that in the past in China, if you were an “obedient” citizen, you might be safe. But now, the situation has completely changed. “They don’t care who you are, even if you’re a foreigner; they just need to match your blood type. If it matches, you’ll be labelled a terrorist and then disappear.”

The CCP continues to deny all allegations of forced organ harvesting, calling them “anti-China propaganda.” He told the guests that airport “green channels,” the large number of missing children and disappeared persons each year, all prove the brutal fact that the CCP is supplying organs to the world.

Rogers: Standing with Falun Gong Practitioners

In response to audience questions, renowned human rights activist and co-founder of Hong Kong Watch, Benedict Rogers, emphasized that the UK has a tradition of voluntary organ donation, and everyone knows that finding a matching organ usually takes months or even longer, and it’s impossible to complete the process in one or two weeks. But in China, it can be done in one or two weeks. So the question is: if these organs aren't from forced organ harvesting, did they just appear out of thin air?

Above: Benedict Rogers questions the CCP: If forced organ harvesting doesn't exist, where do these readily available organs come from?

He says the CCP has consistently denied the existence of forced organ harvesting. "So, my challenge to the CCP is: if you want us to believe forced organ harvesting 'didn't happen,' then let the CCP quickly clarify and explain—where exactly does the massive source of organs that supports your efficient and rapid organ transplantation come from?"

He points out that we all know the answer: numerous investigations show that they are obtained through forced organ harvesting. The international community must do more to stop this atrocity. As the film “State Organs” shows: beyond the heartbreaking and horrific individual suffering, what is most shocking is the scale of this phenomenon and the speed of organ matching in China.

As a Catholic, he, along with Lord Alton of the UK, Congressman Chris Smith of the US, and other political figures, have been speaking out bravely on this issue. He said, “The Catholic media is also very supportive of us, and I write for many Catholic publications. I hope the Catholic Church and all religious groups can do more to stand with Falun Gong practitioners and express their support on this issue.”

He also spoke about “transnational repression.” The Chinese government’s tentacles have reached the streets of London. “My family received threatening letters. My mother also received a letter asking her to persuade her son to shut up,” Rogers revealed, sharing his experience of being followed and photographed outside his home. “This is not only a threat to the Chinese people, but also a threat to us.”

Bhullar: The principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance are the most fundamental values of human civilization.

Pritpal Bhullar, Human Right’s Activist: Co-Chair of the International LGBT+ FoRB (https://www.lgbtforb.org/ https://appgfreedomofreligionorbelief.org), has long been committed to promoting religion or belief freedom for all. In an interview, he said, “It's incredibly upsetting to see how much indignity is involved in people not being able to have their right to their own bodies let alone the right to their own belief.”

Above: Pritpal Bhullar: As a Sikh, it's my responsibility to make sure that human dignity is upheld for all people.

What is most painful is that countless families don’t even know what their loved ones have gone through. “It's very upsetting to see how the families don't know what's happened to their relatives and it's something that we must stop. It's a huge indignity. I see in China, we hear of the indignity of people who happened to be from the Uyghur community, Falun Gong Practitioners, the LGBT community, the Christian community. Anybody who thinks differently to the communist state. And this is a complete violation of human rights and human dignity and so it's something that we must change.”

“Having worked on human rights and interacted with  Falun Gong practitioners, he highly praised them, saying, “It seems wonderful, it's good for their health, it's good for their spirit. They're very loving people’’

He commended the practitioners' adherence to the principles of “Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance,” calling them the most fundamental values of human civilization, “These (truth, compassion and tolerance) are the fundamental building blocks of humans, so it's something that we should all uphold.”

Local British residents called for an end to the killings.

As the lights came on, the feelings of many audience members regarding the trampling of faith and the unwavering resilience of the Falun Gong practitioners were palpable. One visibly shaken audience member, Fulvinder, expressed the emotions of the entire audience.

“I never imagined things would be this bad,” she said, her voice trembling. “This trampling of human rights is simply unimaginable. We must not allow this to continue; we must find a way to help the Chinese people and end the CCP's atrocities.”

People are awakening, and the conclusion of the day was clear: the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is not an isolated religious issue, but a touchstone for global human rights. As Dr. Enver warned, the CCP's system is no longer limited to targeting specific groups.
