After years of not holding a brush in the UK, I thought no one would be interested in my skills, and so, I got rid of all my tools. Then only 12 months ago, someone local (in Cornwall) showed interest and brought some basic tools he had purchased on internet to show me!

In 2022, I was invited to teach calligraphy at the De Yin Summer Camp in London for children from 4- to 16-year-old, as well as to help with the promotion of Shen Yun Performing Arts. This involved drawing individual’s names in Chinese characters using brush calligraphy, and to introduce this beautiful, ancient culture.

And to my surprise, my sister also posted our mother’s calligraphy tools from Japan to the UK!

I now keep on discovering the depth of brush calligraphy and the history of each character.

In the video you can see me demonstrating how to draw the character for ‘Life’

My teacher, who taught me calligraphy from age 12 to 22, passed away on 28th December 2022.
...With great respect and gratitude to Mrs Kiwako Morinaga for introducing a glimpse of the great culture to me.
