'The Great Oak' by Scarlett Thomas

I had some great news the other day and a very generous offer.

After seeing the importance of reading together with their children, an old friend of ours started writing books for them. Our friend, who has now written and illustrated a couple of children’s books and writes under the name of ‘Scarlett Thomas’, has kindly donated some copies of their second book ‘The Great Oak’ towards the advocacy work of ‘End Transplant Abuse in China’ (ETAC) something which I have been actively supporting for some years.

I thought this book would fit really well on Carry Forth Tradition so I’ve added it to ‘Little Shop’.

It is £10.50 inc P&P. All proceeds will go to ETAC.

'The Great Oak' by Scarlett Thomas

THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO BRING PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN TOGETHER ANY TIME OF DAY

For tens of thousands of years, the oaks have stood proud and tall, and along with the other trees around this planet helped provide the air that we all breathe. They give us shelter from the rain, shade from the hot sun and provide a home for a variety of animals. They even provide stability to the ground we all walk on. We little creatures have made a big impact on our home since we first arrived here. See how the story unfolds, seen through the eyes of one great oak and one little guy who is hoping soon to be a great oakif he gets the chance. See the oaks amusement and sometimes the horror at the goings-on of the strange but seemingly harmless little creatures who seem to have appeared from nowhere. How will they cope against enormous odds? Will the human race realise in time? Will there be someone to save them maybe its YOU?

About the Author

Scarlett Thomas was born in the United Kingdom and, since the age of eighteen, has been travelling extensively throughout the world for work and pleasure. Currently residing in Bali, Indonesia, Scarlett has also spent a few years living in Singapore, Brazil, Spain and Azerbaijan, all of which have contributed to a rich and varied account of how differently people around the world view their environment. The author first began writing childrens stories after being persuaded by the children at home to put down on paper the stories they would all listen to each night before bedtime.
